Fun with Makeup

If you ever wonder if celebrities always look totally flawless, no… They also wake up just like us, with a little help. With the help of makeup artists they go from looking beautiful to flawless. Makeup-less selfies were all the rage last year, but in case you missed a few, here are some reminders that they are actually quite similar to us.

I’d love to have you join me at one of En Pointe’s upcoming seminars or workshops. If you’re more of a one-on-one woman, then give me a call or send an email. You’ll be the star and we’ll bring out the va va voom!

Spring/Summer Street Style Wrap

Well! That’s a wrap. In case you’ve missed Fashion Week across the pond for Spring/Summer 2018, here are some snaps of my favorites. Since I was here stateside holding things down I was unable to attend. However, I would like to thank Glamour, Allure, WWD, Fashionista, Harper’s Bazaar, and Who What Wear for the compilations of photos and keeping me up to date. The photography below is not mine, but I have compiled a fun and easy summary of Street Style from Seoul Fashion Week, Tokyo Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and London Fashion Week. Enjoy your visual tour!

I love Asian Fashion! When I taught university in Dalian China, I remember all the students talking about how cool the Korean students were. With the recent boom in wealth, social media, K-pop, South Korean is rapidly becoming an epicenter for rapidly evolving fashion. From the above pictures you can see the vibrancy, freedom in dressing, and outfits that if worn in the US would cause a possible uproar. Men in snakeskin orange pants, does it get any more creative than that? I think not!

Welcome to Tokyo, where the newest fashion invention is thong jeans. Yes, thong jeans. In a country where business practices are extremely formal, polite, and restraint is a desired attribute, the fashions emerging from Tokyo are anything but. Tokyo’s fashions, sub-cultures, and styles turn over as rapidly as their technological advances and technology. With street style and fashion houses centered in Tokyo, the innovation and artistic styles are fun to keep up with each Fashion Week!

Ahhh, Paris, often considered the fashion capital of the world. France boasts big names such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Cardin, Chanel, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Thierry Mugler, and that is just the beginning of the power houses behind this artistic country. Although the majority of French women prefer a more classic look, such a jeans a blazer, or sleek black outfits with simple lines, they focus on lux fabrics such as cashmere and silk. Paris Fashion Week is a fun time for these classy residents to enjoy the visual art masterpieces walking around the city of lights.

Milan, a city of love and luxury is recognized as a fashion hub. Milan developed its reputation for simplicity and high quality textiles many years ago. The Middle Ages and the Renaissance had Milan popping with luxury goods, and leading the import and export business in high quality goods. Today Milan boasts major Italian fashion houses such as Armani, Bottega Veneta, Canali, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Prada, Versace, and the list goes on. While there are many new and unusual pieces by these designers by favorite is always the classic with a twist in an unexpected color. Enjoy the vibrant life!

Can we take a moment to celebrate beautifully tailored clothes and customization? For many these may be some of the first things that come to mind. From a major hub for trade and to an expanding clothing industry largely due to immigrants, London has been an important center of trade and fashion. Londoners pride themselves in a sense of tradition mixed with innovation, and a sprinkle of theatricality. Even current designers are often inspired by street fashion and can thank some success abroad to movements such as club scene, post-punk, and new-romanticism to the very streets of London.

The Art of Saving a Horse

On Friday October 13 I was lucky enough to attend The Art of Saving a Horse Benefit. Ikon Images, a unique and fun gallery in downtown Canton Ohio hosted the event and all the proceeds went to Last Chance Corral Horse Rescue. In the last year Last Chance Corral Horse Rescue has rescued over 100 foals! Art and charity, yes please!

The art work featured artist from around the country, including an artist that helped with Lord of The Rings. It was an honor to attend the benefit and to meet several of the artists that night. Along with art available for purchase there was a silent auction with items donated from shops around the community.

Ikon Images did a wonderful job of creating a cozy yet sophisticated environment, and everything from their food and wine, to the live music made this an event to remember. If you haven’t been to Ikon Images yet, head down to 221 5th St NW and check it out. It is definitely a hidden gem in the Canton art scene!

Brave and Beautiful The Art of Fashion

Last week Belden Village Mall and About Magazine partnered with vendors and local restaurants for Brave ad Beautiful, The Art of Fashion. There was a great turnout of women who gathered to support and celebrate survivors of breast cancer. Several survivors shared their stories and modeled the latest fashions, which were provided by shops in the mall.

About Magazine of Stark County hosted the fashion show and did an amazing job celebrating these women, supporting current women fighting cancer, and organizing the local sponsors. There is nothing I love more than seeing the community come together to support others and give back.

To the restaurants, retailers, models, and everyone that made this event possible, keep up the good work. Keep inspiring others and making an impact. Thank you to Belden Village Mall for the donation to Mercy Medical Center! Let’s work together to change  the community and the world.

The Art of Love Wedding Show

Last week I had the amazing honor of attending The Art of Love Wedding Show. Hosted by Robert J. Events at The Akron Museum of Art on October 4th, the venue was gorgeous and the food was amazing!

If you have never been to the Akron Museum of Art it is an absolute must see! The open space, modern architecture, and galleries are both clean and simple, yet modern, making it a perfect wedding venue. There is little need for decoration, since the art and design speaks for itself.

The food was provided by Robert J Events and the Golden Tier Dinner Buffet with the Griled Vegetable Display was both delicious and visually appealing. Canton Chair rental provided beautiful golden bamboo chairs and were comfortable and of course stunning. Rich Siebert, owner of Beach Boyz Entertainment was upbeat, personable, and had a fun variety of music. All Occasions Bakery, based in Jackson Township provided the wedding cakes. Their cakes were fun, so yum, and the decorating was unique and beautiful. The mother/daughter family owned business was kind and professional.

The event was well organized and the welcoming and classy atmosphere definitely made the venue and vendors ones to contact when you are planning your perfect day!

ConverZations Blind Spot: A Matter of Perception

Last week I had the pleasure of attending an amazing collaboration between Massillon Museum, Cleveland Institute of Music, and both local and national artists. What prompted the collaboration? How do the visually impaired get to experience art?The Zimmermann Symphony Center hosted the beautiful display, panel discussion and performance on September 19, 2017. Canton Symphony Orchestra string quartet did a fantastic job playing the original compositions by three composers from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Luckily if you didn’t get to attend this exciting and innovative evening there is still time to see the art. The Zimmermann Symphony Center will have the paintings, sculptures, and interactive sound displays available to visit through October 13. This one of a kind exhibit is something you’ll definitely want to see!

Coffee and Connections

In May Muggswigz graciously hosted our first Women’s Networking Night in downtown Canton. We welcomed several attendees from Akron, Canton, North Canton and Green. This trendy and cozy coffee shop was the perfect meetup location for a small group and cozy evening in.

We targeted innovation as we broke into two teams and developed two needed inventions. At the end both teams presented their creative ideas and attempted to seek the other team. It was a great night with women joining us from backgrounds in medicine, psychology, technology, accounting, and event planning. Great work ladies!
